Mike is an a cappella fiend. Besides founding and directing Uncommon, he actively works to connect a cappella groups at all levels across the Commonwealth as CASA’s Virginia Ambassador and Director of The A Cappella Embassy. He also serves as Technical Director for The Recorded A Cappella Review Board (RARB), known throughout the community as the definitive source of a cappella analysis and critique on the Web. He has also been known to participate on the selection committee for CASA’s annual SING compilation, as a nominator and judge for the prestigious Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards, and as a judge for the Richmond Rhythm a cappella competition alongside other local a cappella luminaries.

Mike's musical background includes formal training in piano and voice, several years of choir and musical theater, and of course his storied career with the group he founded in college, Columbia University’s Nonsequitur. As far as musical tastes go, Mike will listen to anything with chords and a melody — and the more obscure, the better.
In his other life, Mike works as a manager/architect with the technology consulting firm CapTech. He lives in Glen Allen with his wife, Inna, son, Noah, and dog, Zoe.
